Understanding your condition

Different tissues. Different recovery needs.

Symptoms can overlap, but the treatment approach depends on which structures are irritated, compressed, injured, or healing after repair.

Tendon conditions

Painful or limited tendon glide can make gripping and movement difficult. Care may address irritation, overuse, stiffness, or recovery following tendon repair.

Examples: tendon repairs, De Quervain’s and trigger finger

Nerve conditions

Nerve compression or injury may cause numbness, tingling, weakness, sensitivity, or reduced coordination. Treatment is matched to the location and type of nerve involvement.

Examples: carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel and nerve repairs

Soft-tissue injuries

Ligaments, joint-supporting tissues, wounds, and scars may need protection followed by progressive motion, stability, and functional retraining.

Examples: sprains, ligament injuries, TFCC and scar restriction

Reasons to seek care

When your hand or arm does not feel—or work—like it should.

Pain with gripping, lifting, pinching, or repetitive use
Numbness, tingling, burning, or altered sensation
Weakness, fatigue, or frequently dropping objects
Clicking, catching, stiffness, or limited movement
Swelling, tenderness, scar restriction, or sensitivity
Difficulty with work, self-care, parenting, sports, or sleep

How we can help

Treatment based on the tissue—and the person

We select treatment according to your diagnosis, irritability, healing stage, precautions, and the activities you want to regain.

01

Detailed assessment

Evaluation of motion, strength, sensation, swelling, tissue mobility, symptoms, and functional limitations.

02

Protection & custom orthoses

Custom splinting to protect a repair, reduce irritation, position tissue, or support safer function.

03

Movement & tendon gliding

Carefully selected exercises to improve motion and tissue glide without exceeding current precautions.

04

Nerve-focused care

Education, positioning, graded movement, sensory retraining, and functional strategies when appropriate.

05

Scar, swelling & sensitivity

Hands-on treatment and home strategies for edema, scar mobility, discomfort, and hypersensitivity.

06

Strength & return to activity

Progressive loading and task-specific retraining for home, work, caregiving, recreation, and sports.

A carefully paced recovery

Protection and movement must stay in balance.

Too much stress can irritate or compromise healing tissue. Too little movement can contribute to stiffness, adhesions, weakness, and loss of function.

Your Riviera therapist adjusts treatment to the structure involved and coordinates with your referring physician when appropriate. After a repair, we follow the surgeon’s precautions and protocol rather than applying a standard timeline.
