What is the CHT examination?
The Hand Therapy Certification Examination is administered through the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC). It assesses advanced knowledge and clinical judgment in upper-limb rehabilitation for occupational therapists and physical therapists pursuing the Certified Hand Therapist credential.
The breadth of the exam calls for both foundational knowledge and the ability to apply it. Expect to prepare across assessment, care planning, interventions, and basic science—not simply memorize isolated facts. HTCC offers spring and fall testing windows through PSI.

A roadmap for your study
Study can bring together anatomy, biomechanics, tissue healing, tendon and nerve conditions, fracture care, orthoses, wound and scar management, and the reasoning behind treatment decisions.

Before you apply
HTCC requires an active OT or PT professional credential in good standing, at least three years since initial licensure or certification, and at least 4,000 hours of direct hand therapy practice. Study and observation do not replace the direct patient-care requirement.
